چکیده

Background and Objectives. Few studies have evaluated differences in muscle architecture quadriceps femoris constituents with sensor electrodes positioned over vastus lateralis (VL) medialis (VM) motor points during a neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) session. We aimed to investigate the changes of rectus (RF), VL, VM, intermedius (VI) portions evoked contractions placed VL VM points. Materials Methods. The study is crossover, repeated-measure design, conducted healthy males aged 24.0 ± 4.6 years. Ultrasonography at rest contraction 40% maximum voluntary (MVC) were used assess pennation angle ( id="M2"> θ p ) fascicle length (Lf) RF, VI portions. Results. mean torque observed was id="M3"> 201.14 50.22 N.m MVC id="M4"> 80.45 20.08 N.m. There no difference for id="M5"> comparing four components id="M6"> = 0.27 ). significant id="M7"> < 0.05 interaction Lf without relevant clinical importance study. Conclusions. on Therefore, clinicians can choose either or electrode positioning expect similar adaptation given torque. Future should be establish optimal different optimize more rational NMES settings.

Torque decrease during submaximal evoked contractions of the quadriceps muscle is linked not only to muscle fatigue.

The aim of this study was to analyze the neuromuscular mechanisms involved in the torque decrease induced by submaximal electromyostimulation (EMS) of the quadriceps muscle. It was hypothesized that torque decrease after EMS would reflect the fatigability of the activated motor units (MUs), but also a reduction in the number of MUs recruited as a result of changes in axonal excitability thresho...

Attenuation of Motor Evoked Potentials Following Prone Positioning

Background and Importance Of outmost importance for the success of neurosurgical operations is proper patient positioning. This is particularly the case for operations conducted in the prone position, which is associated with several potential complications. Case presentation Here we report the case of a 52 years old male patient who underwent endoscopic discectomy for an L5-S1 herniated dis...

Neuromuscular function of the quadriceps muscle during isometric maximal, submaximal and submaximal fatiguing voluntary contractions in knee osteoarthrosis patients

INTRODUCTION Knee osteoarthrosis (KOA) is commonly associated with a dysfunction of the quadriceps muscle which contributes to alterations in motor performance. The underlying neuromuscular mechanisms of muscle dysfunction are not fully understood. The main objective of this study was to analyze how KOA affects neuromuscular function of the quadriceps muscle during different contraction intensi...

Torque and mechanomyogram relationships during electrically-evoked isometric quadriceps contractions in persons with spinal cord injury.

The interaction between muscle contractions and joint loading produces torques necessary for movements during activities of daily living. However, during neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES)-evoked contractions in persons with spinal cord injury (SCI), a simple and reliable proxy of torque at the muscle level has been minimally investigated. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investi...

How Hinge Positioning in Cross-Country Ski Bindings Affect Exercise Efficiency, Cycle Characteristics and Muscle Coordination during Submaximal Roller Skiing

The purposes of the current study were to 1) test if the hinge position in the binding of skating skis has an effect on gross efficiency or cycle characteristics and 2) investigate whether hinge positioning affects synergistic components of the muscle activation in six lower leg muscles. Eleven male skiers performed three 4-min sessions at moderate intensity while cross-country ski-skating and ...
